In Vedas, Peepal is considered to be Amritmay. 'Tatraamritasya Chakshanam' means that by consuming Peepal properly, one gets Amrit. Wherever there is Peepal, Shivling is established there, this tradition has been going on for centuries. Scholars say that like Peepal and Shiva, all humans should be beneficial and useful for the society and the nation.
It is said in Atharvaveda that where there is a Peepal tree, there live wise and meditative people. Hence Peepal is also helpful in making one knowledgeable. Peepal does not bear flowers, it bears fruits directly, that is why one of its names is 'Guhya-Pushpak'. Peepal gives dense shade, keeps one healthy. The shade of Peepal and the air filtered through its leaves provide mental consciousness and energy. Peepal not only keeps one healthy, but also makes one long-lived. This tree itself has a long life. Proper consumption of the Panchang (root, stalk, bark, fruit and branch) of Peepal is very beneficial.
The biggest feature of the Peepal tree is that it purifies all the poisonous gases between space and earth and releases oxygen in the atmosphere.
Patients of asthma and tuberculosis are advised to stay under a Peepal tree. No matter how dense the Peepal tree is, it cools the sun rays and lets them reach the earth. It is never dark under a Peepal tree during the day.
Peepal also teaches Karmayoga. Peepal leaves keep moving continuously. One name of Peepal is 'Chalpatra', which means the leaves of which keep pulsating and waving in the wind. Peepal is a boon from God for the patients of breathing problems, asthma, tuberculosis, bronchitis and diphtheria.
How to use the root, bark, leaves, fruit and stem of Peepal tree and for which disease is mentioned in detail in the texts of Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, the soft bark of this tree and the bud of the leaf or the old stem is very beneficial in diabetes. The powder of Peepal fruit is very appetizing. The lineage of the person who plants a Peepal tree never ends, but remains everlasting. Planting it brings prosperity and longevity and the ancestors get salvation by getting free from hell.
Hindus worship trees like Peepal, Tulsi, Bilva etc. It is our moral duty to show our respect towards the natural elements which are very useful in our life. Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Peepal tree in Gaya. If you sit under this tree with concentration, you will experience that the sweet sound of the leaves moving helps in concentration.
