Long ago, there was a beautiful city named Ayodhya, whose king was Dasharatha. King Dasharatha had three queens: Kaushalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. To obtain offspring, King Dasharatha, on the advice of Sage Vashistha, organized a sacred ritual (yajna). Upon the completion of the yajna, Agni (the fire god) gave King Dasharatha a bowl of divine kheer (rice pudding) and instructed him to feed it to his queens. King Dasharatha distributed the kheer among his three queens.
After some time, the queens were blessed with children. Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Lord Rama, Queen Sumitra gave birth to Lakshmana and Shatrughna, and Queen Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata. Lord Rama was the eldest and the most beloved.
The birth of Rama brought immense joy to the entire city of Ayodhya. King Dasharatha performed the naming ceremony and other rituals for his sons with great devotion and ceremony. Lord Rama, with his virtues, patience, and devotion, won everyone's hearts and grew up to become a great warrior and an ideal son.
