The Indra and Indrani Story: Why We Celebrate Raksha Bandhan


Once, there was a war between the gods and the demons that lasted for twelve years, but the gods were not victorious. Then, Guru Brihaspati suggested that the war should be stopped. Hearing this, Indrani said that she would tie a protective thread on Indra the next day, and its power would protect him and lead to victory. On the full moon day of the month of Shravan, in the presence of Guru Brihaspati, the protective thread was made, and Indrani tied it to Lord Indra at an auspicious time. As a result, Indra, along with all the gods, emerged victorious.
